Visit two castles of Bratislava – Devin Castle and Bratislava Castle in 4 hours and enjoy the magic atmosphere of places where kings and queens lived in the middle ages.
Devin Castle is approx. 20 min. drive from the Old Town of Bratislava. It is a well-preserved ruin (destroyed by Napoleon’s army in 1809) standing on a massive limestone cliff above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. It’s unique geographical position right on the border offers a terrific panoramic view of Austria. We’ll also talk about the sad history of this place where the iron curtain used to stand. During Communist times, many people wanted to escape to Austria from here and more than 400 people were shot dead.
Bratislava Castle is a former royal residence. Today, it is the symbol of Bratislava and the home of the Museum of History where the original findings from Roman times could be seen. Castle hill also offers stunning views of the Old Town, Danube river, Austria and the concrete block houses from 70s in Petrzalka district. The beautiful Royal Baroque Garden behind the castle is a peaceful haven ideal for a relaxing stroll.
